Reservoir High School Students Give to Celebrate Veterans Day
January 6, 2009
HHV presented with a donation from these very grateful youths
It began with a simple showing of a Veterans Day video and brief history. Col. Gorham Black III (Ret.), a substitute teacher at Reservoir High School in Fulton, Maryland wanted to get his students into the spirit of Veterans Day. He thought that providing the high school population with a televised Veterans Day program might just be the spark they need. It worked.
Black provided the Student Government Association (SGA) with 100 red, white and blue wristbands which they promptly offered for a donation of $2.00 each. "They blew right threw them! All 100 bracelets sold in an hour and a half," said Black. "They thought the event was just super!"
The SGA forwarded HHV a check for $200.00. "When young people like these students give of themselves to a cause, whether it's their personal time or money-it really warms the heart," said Mike Lynch, HHV's executive director, upon receipt of the donation. "There's nothing quite like a youth putting others before himself."
Black, a member of HHV's board of directors, is extremely proud of his students! Photos are of the presentation of HHV's certificate of appreciation given to the students.
